Offshore Patrol & Security Conference

Offshore Patrol & Security Conference Portsmouth UK April 24 / 25 / 26

Offshore Patrol & Security from 24th to 26th April 2012 is an international conference and exhibition dedicated to the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) and maritime security sector. The conference attracts more than 250 delegates each year alongside a customer centric exhibition designed to highlight the latest developments in technology.

Held each year at the Royal Navy Dockyard in Portsmouth, UK, it is an important event for all navies and coast guards to attend. All serving naval and coast guard officers can register for a delegate ticket to attend Offshore Patrol & Security.

The OPV Capability Day on 24th April 2012 commences with the technology advances in enhancing OPV survivability and protection. Topics range from radar cross section and IR suppression to future stealth features. A presentation on advanced equipment includes training methods to enhance crew readiness and mission success.

The changing offshore patrol scenario requires discussion of capabilities delivered through utilisation of RHIBs, helicopters and UAVs in facilitating maritime surveillance. Jon Hill of FRC International assesses the future of RHIB and Fast Response Craft (FRC) crew and coxswain training, new international qualifications plus specialist advanced modules that support professional sector agency and asset interoperability.

Graham Wagstaff MBE, Technical Simulation Product Development Manger of Transas Marine International will outline how ship builders and operators can use simulation to ensure that crews are prepared to operate their ships safely and economically. Later in the day Transas Marine UK are hosting a site visit to their new facilities in Portsmouth. Day one of the Offshore Patrol & Security conference commences on 25th April with the chairman’s opening speech by Vice Admiral Sir Jeremy Blackham, former Chief of Staff (Capability) Royal Navy. The overview of current and future maritime security challenges discusses interagency strategies for maritime security operations and the role of Offshore Patrol Vessels in facilitating maritime security. As part of a full day Rear Admiral Massimo Annati (Retired), Italian Navy will deliver a presentation regarding C4ISR needs for maritime interdiction and maritime security operations. This includes communication with a deployed boarding party.

Day two of the Offshore Patrol & Security conference on 26th April starts by outlining the UK’s maritime patrol capabilities assessing the performance of existing Royal Navy Offshore platforms. Commander Loic Guyot. Commanding Officer of Gowind L'Adroit OPV will present a case study on the multi-role capability platform for the French Navy.

Overall the OPS conference will demonstrate that the role of the 'ship's boat' is changing. RIBs and high speed craft will need to become faster, multi-role craft with the same navigation, communication and information systems that are found on the ship’s bridge. To keep the oceans safe professional boat coxswains and crews will need to develop specialist skills to operate fast response craft effectively in this changing environment.

The Shock Mitigation Directory is pleased to be a media partner and supporter of this event that includes an exhibition of maritime solutions.
